James Wheaton has been a New Westminster resident for 32 years with a lifelong love for back-alley coffee shops, neighborhood diners, and the kind of places that only locals whisper about. Born and raised on Northern Vancouver Island, Carla brings an islander's appreciation for tight-knit communities to her adopted home.
A former Human Resources consultant-turned-storyteller, Carla invested 25+ years in the federal government, helping organizations such as Fisheries & Oceans, Customs, and Service Canada hire new employees. But it wasn't until she launched New West Spotlight that she found her true calling—highlighting the small businesses and unsung personalities that make New West tick, with a firm belief that as a community, together we are stronger.
A self-proclaimed geek, Carla is always looking for ways to make New West Spotlight better in order to better support the community. When she's not recording interviews, digging up local history, or tinkering with podcast improvements, you can find Carla walking her dogs along Dyke Road in Queensborough, volunteering at Century House to help seniors with their tech issues, or participating in a cookie exchange at Christmas. She believes every city has a soul—and in New West, it lives in the little places you almost miss.
